Hidalgo County Man Sought In Uncle’s Death

An arrest warrant remains active for a man accused of killing his uncle in a fight that broke out at a home northeast of Edinburg two weekends ago.

Authorities are working to track down 25-year-old Francisco Alejandro Cantu, who currently faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office says the charge could be upgraded following the findings of an autopsy.

Deputies were called to the home early the morning of May 31st and found 47-year-old Francisco Cantu lying on the ground, unconscious. Witnesses say he’d been in a fight with his 25-year-old nephew. The older Cantu died in the hospital last Saturday.
