Hidalgo County Woman Sues ERCOT, AEP Over Loss Of Power During Winter Storm

A woman in Hidalgo County is suing American Electric Power and ERCOT after she lost power to her oxygen machine during February’s winter storm. Mary Allen Nava says she had just been released from the hospital in January after recovering from COVID-19 and was required to be on oxygen 24 hours a day.

Nava says she was without power for five days during the February freeze, and that her mental and physical health suffered because she was having difficulty breathing without the oxygen. Her attorney has accused AEP Texas and ERCOT of trying to evade their responsibility to customers by moving the case from the state court system to U.S. District Court.
