The government shutdown has brought up concerns about whether the country can continue to keep the southern border closed.

Congressman Henry Cuellar says that both the Border Patrol and Customs agents will still be on the job. But, he says, they won’t get paid until federal funding starts flowing again.

The union that represents Border Patrol agents blasted lawmakers for failing to strike a deal.
