Hundreds Of Thousands Of Federal Workers Face Furlough In Shutdown

If Congress doesn’t come to an agreement on funding, it could leave hundreds of thousands of federal workers out of a job.

A lot of what the government does would have to stop if there are no appropriations by 12-01 a.m. Friday. Essential services that would not shut down include in-hospital medical care, air traffic control, law enforcement, power grid maintenance, and border protection.

A shutdown would affect more agencies than the last one, from late December 2018 to late January 2019.
