Immigrant Baby Rescued After Human Smugglers Toss Infant Into Rio Grande


The Texas Department of Public Safety says members of one of its special units helped save an immigrant child’s life.  A Texas DPS South Texas Region Facebook post says members of its South TexasSpecial Operations Group along with Border Patrol agents rescued the baby from the waters of the Rio Grande on March 16th near Roma.  The post says the smugglers threw the child overboard from the raft they were using to smuggle illegal immigrants into Texas.  The report also says before they threw the baby into the river, the traffickers had assaulted the baby’s mom leaving her with a broken leg.
