Today marks six months since the U.S. has been at war with Iran. The U.S. and Israel launched strikes on the Islamic Republic on February 28th, starting a deadly conflict that also created a global economic shock with maritime oil traffic throttled in the Strait of Hormuz.
While President Trump initially predicted that the war would be over quickly, hostilities continue. Iran’s supreme leader was killed in the opening salvo of the war and the U.S. maintains a blockade on Iranian ports while authorities in Tehran remain defiant.
The U.S. is now taking an economic approach to putting pressure on Iran instead of airstrikes or direct diplomacy.
