A federal judge is limiting ICE officers’ use of warrantless arrests in Oregon. The judge is blocking a DHS practice of arresting noncitizens in immigration sweeps without either a warrant or an individualized determination that the person was likely to escape.
The judge ruled on Thursday that federal agents in Oregon have taken “violent and brutal” actions in the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown, and raised concerns about due process. Courts in Colorado and Washington, D.C. have issued similar rulings.
