The city of La Marque is moving forward with a property tax increase regardless of what Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has to say about it. The Galveston County town is imposing a tax hike of two cents per 100 dollars of property.

Paxton says the move violates a new state law that prohibits local governments from raising property taxes unless they comply with state auditing requirements. La Marque officials say they believe the law doesn’t take effect until fiscal year 2027, which starts next October, so they’re going ahead.
