A South Texas family has filed a lawsuit against an energy drink company following a teen’s death from an enlarged heart.
A press conference to give more details about the lawsuit was held Wednesday at the Hidalgo County Courthouse. Attorneys say 17-year-old Larissa Rodriguez died last year from excessive caffeine consumption. They claim that the Weslaco High School student had begun drinking Alani Nu energy drinks in the year before her death, and that the constant ingestion of excessive caffeine led to her death.
The lawsuit is asking for a million dollars in damages from Glazer’s Beer and Beverage, the distributor of the energy drink.
