Lightfoot Calls For Students, Teachers To Get Back In Classroom

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot says she’s confident a deal with the teachers’ union can be reached if both sides put children first. The Democrat is pushing for children and teachers to return to the classroom, but has been met with resistance from the union.

Teachers want more safety protocols in place, including getting vaccinated, but Lightfoot says the city has already spent 100-million dollars to improve health and safety conditions at schools in the nation’s third largest district. She said it’s important to get children back in the classroom because first quarter grades show a record number of students are failing.
