A man convicted earlier this year for the death of a Donna teen is seeking a new trial. Attorneys for Carlos Julian Contreras filed a motion for a new trial late last month.

Contreras was sentenced to 60 years in prison in late September for the 2020 shooting of Genaro “Izzy” Castillo. His lawyers plan to argue that the case was mishandled because of testimony from a witness who had been offered a deal by prosecutors. No date has been set for a hearing on the motion.
