Man Scheduled For Execution Today For Killing Woman By Setting Her On Fire

Texas is preparing to carry out its fourth execution of 2025 today. A man convicted of killing a Texas grandmother is scheduled to be put to death 13 years to the day after he committed the crime.

Matthew Johnson robbed a Garland convenience store, where he used lighter fluid to set fire to 76-year-old store clerk Nancy Harris. She was taken off life support five days later. Johnson has never claimed to be innocent, and his lawyer says he regrets the murder.
