Three federal agencies are investigating after a Border Patrol agent shot and killed an undocumented immigrant near Hidalgo.
The agent had responded to a report of illegal entries near the Rio Grande at around 7:30 last Friday morning. A CBP news release stated only that as the agent attempted to apprehend one of the immigrants, he discharged his weapon.
The McAllen Monitor quotes a source as saying the Cuban man had grabbed a rock and was about to throw it when the agent opened fire. It’s not clear where the bullet struck the man, but he was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead a short time later. The agent was not hurt. The CBP, DHS, and FBI are all investigating the incident.
