The McAllen school district has told teachers to remove copies of the Ten Commandments from all classrooms. Superintendent Rene Gutierrez sent a memo ordering the removal on Sunday.
The decision comes after the school district was included in a federal lawsuit that will attempt to overturn the state law ordering the display of the Commandments in classrooms. The school district was dismissed from the lawsuit late last month.
However, the federal judge overseeing the case ordered the district to remove the Ten Commandments from classrooms until the lawsuit is resolved.
