New coronavirus-killing air purification systems could begin to be installed in schools in McAllen around the middle of the month. The McAllen ISD is considering a half-million dollar expenditure to purchase the systems which have been shown to almost completely eliminate the coronavirus, as well as the flu and other viruses.
The McAllen Monitor reports the school district is planning to purchase both large and small capacity air purification units in two phases.
In the first phase, 990 units would be installed to cover large congregation areas in all of the district’s schools. District officials are working to confirm if both phases of the purchase qualify for federal funding via the 2020 CARES Act.
