McAllen is taking action against businesses in the Entertainment District following an alleged assault on a police officer.

A weekend social media post from Mayor Javier Villalobos announced that 33 citations were issued to businesses in that district on Friday. The citations came after the city filed several lawsuits against bars that allegedly failed to comply with city permit requirements.

The mayor also urged bar owners to raise their minimum admission age to 21-years-old, saying the city would not compromise public safety for profits. The action was prompted by an alleged assault against a police officer on August 24th.
