Miami’s next mayor will make history. Eileen Higgins won Tuesday’s runoff with 59 percent of the vote. Higgins will become the city’s first female mayor. She says it’s very exciting, and she hopes it sends a message to any girls or teenagers they can be anything they want.

The race drew national interest with former President Obama backing the eventual winner and President Trump endorsing her opponent.
