There is now a push at both the federal and state level to overturn an landmark Supreme Court case, mandating the education of all kids, no matter their immigration status.

Josh Blackman at the South Texas College of Law says the ruling was just as controversial in the early 80s as it is now. The majority wrote that denying illegal immigrate children a free education would create a “subclass of illiterates” that would add to the costs of unemployment, welfare and crime.
