The Mission school district has sent a letter to Governor Greg Abbott urging that public school personnel be considered frontline workers, and be among the first to receive the coronavirus vaccine.
The letter was sent after the Mission school board approved a resolution to include public school employees in the definition of frontline workers. The resolution also supports efforts by Ruben Cortez, the Valley representative on the Texas Board of Education who has been pushing the effort.
The resolution states school employees are essential for resuming in-person instruction. Other Valley school districts are expected to pass similar resolutions.
