SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk is offering an explanation for the latest explosion involving one of the company’s Starship prototypes. Musk took to Twitter Tuesday to say that the SN-10 prototype did not land gently when it returned to the company’s Boca Chica Beach test facility last week.
Musk tweeted that the SN-10 engine was low on thrust and that the legs and skirt of the prototype were crushed as it landed. That led to a fiery explosion minutes after the prototype appeared to land successfully. Musk added that fixes were in the works for the SN-11 prototype, which is already being prepared for testing and a future launch.
