National Weather Service Says Destructive Rains Were Too Much For Drainage To Handle

Brownsville’s stormwater drainage system isn’t able to cope with recent heavy rains that caused flooding. Yesterday the National Weather Service confirmed that starting Thursday and into Friday night more than ten inches of rain fell in east Brownsville.  In addition, more than nine-inches were recorded in the southeast and over eight inches in northeast Brownsville.  The NWS report says the drainage system was overcome by the volume in a short time period which led to the destructive flooding in the city.
