A new state law takes bans certain people and countries from buying land in Texas as of Monday. Senate Bill 17 prohibits the sale of Texas land and other property to persons and companies from China, Iran, North Korea, Russia, and any other country named by the governor.
The law also bars the same people and countries from leasing homes or apartments for more than a year. Texas is the top homebuilding state in the nation. Governor Greg Abbott says the intent of the law is to protect Texas from undue foreign influence.
