New Year’s Eve Double-Murder Suspect Arraigned

An Edcouch man will remain jailed on a 1 million dollar bond after pleading not guilty to capital murder charges in the New Year’s Eve shooting deaths of his common-law wife and his mother-in-law. 28-year-old Agustin Adan Castellano was arraigned on the charges Wednesday afternoon.

Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputies had responded to a call from a home on Kenny Lane north of Donna on New Years’ Eve, found two women dead, and arrested Castellano who was still in the home.

Killed were 30-year-old Olga Guadalupe Guevara and her mother, 58-year-old Maria de la Luz Reyes Martinez. Investigators say the women were shot during a domestic dispute but it’s not clear what sparked the dispute.
