The U.S. Department of Homeland Security will deploy buoys along the Rio Grande River to discourage illegal border crossings.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was in Brownsville Wednesday for a roundtable discussion with local ranchers and U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel. After a tour of the area, Noem announced that floating barriers will be installed along 500 miles of the river.

Texas installed buoys near Eagle Pass in 2023 to prevent illegal border crossings along the river.
