NYC Board Of Corrections Proposing End To Solitary Confinement

New York City’s Board of Correction plans to propose a ban on solitary confinement at today’s public meeting. The independent oversight board’s proposal would apply to all jails within the city.

Mayor Bill de Blasio says this would be the first time a major jail system took such a step. He compares it to the move to close Rikers Island and the already-adopted ban on solitary confinement for anyone under the age of 22.
