By Houston city officials are looking at ways to fight illegal dumping, which results in piles of debris along roadsides all over the city. Next month, the city will initiate a new on-demand heavy trash pickup program that will enable residents to call 311 to schedule a requested trash pickup.
Larius Hassen, director of Houston Solid Waste Management, says his department is also looking into partnering with local landfills to make sure heavy trash ends up where it belongs.
