Voters in Harlingen re-elected one incumbent to the city commission, voted out another, and sent a third race to a runoff. District 3 Commissioner Michael Mezmar won a fourth term, defeating former commissioner Robert Leftwich with 60 percent of the vote.
District 5 Commissioner Victor Leal was defeated in his try for a fourth term, losing a close contest to schoolteacher Rene Perez, who took 52 percent of the vote.
There’ll be a runoff for the District 4 commission seat. Frank Morales finished on top with 46 percent of the vote and will face former commissioner Basilio Sanchez who ended with 29 percent.
