There are now five candidates in the race to be the next mayor of McAllen. The McAllen Monitor is reporting that Othal Brand Junior has filed his candidate papers in what will be his second run for mayor. Brand unsuccessfully tried to unseat Mayor Jim Darling in 2017. This time, Darling is not running for re-election.
Brand, who’s father sat as McAllen’s mayor for 20 years, joins four other candidates in the mayoral race – District 1 Commissioner Javier Villalobos, District 6 Commissioner Veronica Whitacre, businessman and attorney Michael Fallek, and Raul Cortina.
