The city of Pharr has become the first municipality in Hidalgo County to be approved as a coronavirus vaccine provider. The designation means the city can get vaccine doses directly from the state.
In addition, local hub providers such as the UT-RGV School of Medicine, DHR Health, and the Hidalgo County Health Department are able to directly transfer vaccines to the city of Pharr.
The designation as a vaccine provider required the city to purchase a vaccine storage refrigerator at a cost of $5,000, and to pay overtime for training city staff. City officials say community clinics to distribute the vaccine will be announced in the near future.
