Pharr Police Department Completes Mounted Training With Border Patrol

The Pharr Police Department is doing something no other Rio Grande Valley police force has ever done. Four members of the department completed four weeks of horse training with the Border Patrol yesterday.

The four officers will make up the city’s first mounted patrol unit, which is expected to begin working in the community sometime in the next two months.

Pharr’s mayor tells the Monitor that the unit will work to meet the unique challenges of law enforcement along the southern border while also engaging the community through public appearances.
