Police Fatally Shoot Driver After Run-In With Austin Officer

(AP) — Police in Austin say an officer fatally shot a driver after a series of events that began when the driver pointed a gun at another officer who was off duty at the time.

Police say the man killed early Tuesday was 27-year-old Alexander Gonzales. Police Chief Brian Manley says the off-duty officer fired his gun at Gonzales’ car after Gonzales pointed his gun at the officer.

Manley says Gonzales got out of his vehicle, walked to a back passenger door and reached inside. One of the on-duty officers who responded opened fire on Gonzales, killing him. Police say a gun was found in the car.
