Progreso’s police chief says one of his officers mistakenly placed a federal agent in handcuffs last week.

Chief Al Perez says a car was dispatched to the Progreso bridge after U.S. Customs and Border Protection stopped a suspicious car. Perez says the driver refused to be photographed, and a CPB officer grabbed the suspect by the shoulder. The local police officer reportedly assumed the driver was being assaulted and placed the CPB officer in cuffs.

Perez called the situation a misunderstanding, while the federal agency says the incident is under investigation.
