Prosecutors Accuse Austin Officers Of Not Investigating Crimes

Two high-level prosecutors say some Austin police officers are declining to investigate crimes for political purposes.

Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza and County Attorney Delia Garza both sent letters to City Manager Spencer Cronk yesterday outlining their concerns.

In his letter, D-A Garza said the officers falsely claimed they were barred from investigating suspected criminal conduct because of his policies. Both letters state that interim police chief Joseph Chacon was made aware of the issue in June, but do not know if he has taken any action.
