Protestors Gather At Marilyn Statue Unveiling

A 26-foot statue of Marilyn Monroe is getting the attention of residents in Palm Springs, California.

The Women’s March Foundation and several other groups protested last night over what they call the sexual objectification of a beloved Hollywood legend in the “Me Too” era. Locals also claim the statue infringes on the views of the Coachella Valley’s natural landscape.

The 17-ton statue called “Forever Marilyn” recreates the iconic moment in the 1955 comedy “The Seven Year Itch” when Monroe’s dress flies up toward her waist as she stands on a windy New York subway grate.
