Recount To Be Contested In Two Rio Grande City Commission Races

The losing candidates in two Rio Grande City commission races are contesting the results of the recount they had requested.

Place 2 Commissioner Rey Ramirez and Place 4 Commissioner Alberto Escobedo were narrowly defeated in the May 4th election, and a recount determined they had still lost, with a few more votes going to the winners – Ediel Barrera for Place 2 and Eudolio Barrera for Place 4. But in a statement released Monday, Ramirez and Escobedo said they are contesting the results, citing “various irregularities observed during the election process.”
