Authorities say a Roma man who died inside the Starr County detention center two weekends ago hanged himself. A custodial death report from the Starr County Sheriff’s Office states 32-year-old Edgar Garza was found hanging from a support beam in the restroom stall of a holding cell.
The report, obtained by the McAllen Monitor, states Garza had tied the draw string from his basketball shorts around his neck. Garza had been arrested the night of October 18th and booked on a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The Texas Rangers continue to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding Garza’s death.
