The woman who has led Border Patrol efforts in the Rio Grande Valley since 2022 has reportedly been fired. Chief Patrol Agent Gloria Chavez was removed from her position on Friday.
The commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection released a statement Saturday that did not mention Chavez but seemed to indicate that she was terminated for misconduct.
Jason E. Schneider was named acting chief patrol agent for the Rio Grande Valley Sector on Friday.
