Rio Grande City is looking for a new city manager. City commissioners voted Monday to terminate the contract of Alberto Perez after discussing the matter in executive session for nearly two hours. Perez will be on paid administrative leave for 30 days while final details of his severance are worked out.
Perez questioned the motive behind his firing, saying before the executive session that he felt the action was in retaliation for two whistleblower complaints he filed in October. Police Chief Noe Castillo was appointed interim city manager by the commissioners.
