DPS investigators are looking into whether a Roma man was drunk when he crashed his car south of San Juan – a violent wreck in which he was killed and a female passenger was seriously hurt.
Officials say 24-year-old Fidel Vielma was speeding in his GMC Sierra pickup truck mid-morning Saturday, heading west on Juan Balli Road, when he lost control near Stewart Road. The truck smashed into a light pole and Vielma was killed instantly. The woman passenger remains hospitalized in stable condition. The DPS says it suspects alcohol contributed to the deadly crash.
