Texas is poised to become the first state in the nation to come up with a “required reading list” for each grade level in public schools. It’s being workshopped by the State Board of Education, which asked teachers for their favorites.

The TEA’s Shannon Trejo says the goal is to get the giant list pared down by January 1st. This is part of a “back to basics” effort by state lawmakers.
