The Supreme Court hearing over birthright citizenship has ended. It featured a lot of back-and-forth about the Constitution, and also an appearance by President Trump who was in the gallery.
Trump became the first sitting president to attend oral arguments at the Supreme Court, and posted afterwards, “We are the only Country in the World stupid enough to allow “Birthright” Citizenship!”
The case was a challenge to Trump’s executive order that ended birthright citizenship for children born to parents in the U.S. illegally or temporarily.
Opponents argued that goes against the Constitution’s 14th Amendment, granting automatic citizenship to children born in the U.S. The justices are expected to issue a decision by late June or early July.
