The Trump administration is calling for a massive investment in the U.S. air traffic control system.
During a news conference Thursday, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said he will ask Congress to grant “upfront appropriations” for all the money needed to update technology and equipment, which he said will be a three-to-four-year-long effort.
The announcement comes after a series of air safety issues in the U.S., including a recent communication issue which caused hundreds of flight disruptions at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.
