The Texas Senate has approved a bill that would save the Texas Lottery by placing it under new leadership and adding restrictions.

The bill was called a “two-year lease on life,” by Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick. State Senator Bob Hall says the new legislation, Senate Bill 3070 returns the lottery to its roots. SB 3070 puts the Texas Lottery under the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation and abolishes the Texas Lottery Commission, criminalize online ticket sales and bans courier services.

The bill also requires the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission to review the lottery in a few years to determine whether it will continue.
