Shelter To Take In Immigrant Asylum Seeking Underage Girls

A newly adapted care center in west El Paso is expected to house asylum-seeking underage immigrant girls.

Casa Mariposa near Coronado Country Club is a converted Alzheimer’s clinic now adapted as a shelter. Starting sometime this month, it will be used to temporarily house up to a hundred or so immigrant children.

KDBC reported yesterday that San Antonio-based emergency shelter non profit BCFS Health and Human Services administers the site. Unaccompanied girls ages eight to 17 will be dropped off by Customs and Border Protection to stay for up to 30-days while awaiting contact with relatives in this country or a foster care sponsor.
