A severe shortage of district court judges in Harris County is leading to case delays that sometimes last years.
The county has had the same number of civil courts since 1983, handling cases such as child custody and work injury lawsuits for a growing population.
The Texas Office of Court Administration says Harris County needs 25 more district courts, but the current request is for five. In addition to courtroom buildings, the system needs clerks, coordinators, attorneys, and I-T.
