Soldier Arrested On Drug Smuggling Charges

A soldier faces drug smuggling charges in McAllen.  Alabama National Guard soldier Derrick Sankey was caught and arrested by undercover Homeland Security investigators at a Whataburger in Hidalgo.  He told investigators he was at the restaurant to pick up a package of cocaine, which he planned on delivering to someone in McAllen in exchange for a thousand dollars.  Sankey is in federal custody and appeared in court yesterday.  He has another hearing scheduled for this Friday.
