The U.S. Coast Guard has awarded a contract to rebuild its damaged station on South Padre Island. A fire damaged the station last April, forcing crews to relocate their operations.

The Coast Guard announced Wednesday that it has awarded a 200-million-dollar contract to a Florida-based company to build and expand the station. It’s the largest single task order in the history of the Coast Guard’s military construction program. The new station should be ready for use in 2028.
