Starr County Ends COVID-19 Health Orders, Health Authority Steps Down

Starr County is ending all public health orders related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

County Judge Eloy Vera announced yesterday that nearly 82-percent of all residents 65-years-old and older are fully vaccinated, while more than 70-percent of residents 16-years-old and older have received at least one shot.

Vera feels county residents have shown responsibility in getting vaccinated and can determine their own limits on gatherings and social distancing. Dr. Antonio Falcon also announced he was stepping down as the county’s health authority, saying he felt the time was right for someone else to take over.
