Starr Joins Other Valley Counties In Issuing Drought Disaster Declaration

Story by TIM SULLIVAN

Starr County has joined the three other Valley counties in declaring a drought disaster. Starr County commissioners have approved a drought disaster declaration, saying it was prompted by the ongoing lack of rain along with the heat. The declaration comes also as water levels in our water supply reservoirs have dropped to record lows.

The declaration of a disaster gives Starr County access to state resources to lessen the impacts of low water availability. Hidalgo County was the first to declare a drought-related disaster back in April. Cameron County did the same about a week later. Willacy County joined in about two weeks after that.
