The State Board of Education is creating a social studies teaching plan that will emphasize Texas and US history over international cultures. The Republican-led board approved the proposal on Friday by an 8-7 vote.
Board members will soon start developing the official standards for social studies courses, including the specifics of what students will be expected to learn in each school grade.
